FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield University Women's Soccer senior goalkeeper
Katie Wright broke the program's all-time wins record as she picked up 50th career victory in a 4-0 win over Mount St. Mary's. On the offensive side, four different goal scorers touched net with
Ashlyn Walsh,
Kelly O'Connor,
Ashley McMahon, and
Maddy Theriault all picking up scores in the victory.
"After a little sloppy first half I thought we were on our front foot in second half," Head Coach
David Barrett said. "It was a good team effort and win."
The Stags were the aggressors on offense all day long, tallying a season-high 34 shots while scoring four goals for the third time this season.
Fairfield notched their first goal in the 14th minute as
Alex Darcy sent a cross into the box where
Ashlyn Walsh was able to head in for her second goal of the season. Freshman
Kelly O'Connor closed the half with her first score of her career, taking a pass from
Riley Roycroft to put the squad up 2-0 into halftime.
The Stags notched the third less than a minute into the second stanza as
Ashley McMahon took a one-timer off a deflected shot from Darcy to make the score 3-0. Fairfield completed their scoring as Theriault sent a cross near the mouth of the goal that ended up in the net off the foot of a Mount defender.
Fairfield's 34 shots were the most taken by the team this season with Theriault leading the team with eight.
Wright needed just two saves for her historic win, breaking the program's all-time mark set by Anne Lyons 25 years ago.
Fairfield will be back in action when they travel to Saint Peter's to face the Peacocks on Saturday at 1pm.
