JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Fairfield University Women's Soccer senior forward
Maddy Theriault became the third Stag ever to reach 100 career points and she did so in an emphatic way by recording a hat trick in a 4-0 victory at Saint Peter's. In total, Theriault scored three goals and dished out an assist to raise her career total to 104 points, tying her for second on the program's all-time list. The victory also keeps Fairfield in second place in the MAAC standings with their 6-0-2 mark and improves their overall record to 11-1-2, holding a winning percentage that ranks them in the top-10 in Division I.
"The game was your typical MAAC game on the road," Head Coach
David Barrett said. "Saint Peter's was a rugged opponent who played hard and forced us to adjust and figure out the solution. I'm happy with the three points and we are onto Rider."
Theriault started her day quickly, scoring her first goal just 88 seconds into the match.
Cassidy Clinton launched a ball towards the corner of the box where Theriault was able to strike the ball past the keeper for her ninth goal of the year.
The senior was not finished with her performance, tallying another goal in the 30th minute and the closing tally in the second half.
Sam Kersey was the other Stag to touch net in the match with Theriault and
Emilie Cook creating the opportunity in the 26th minute.
In total, the Stags out-shot the Peacocks 22-9 with Theriault attempting seven.
Katie Wright extended her scoreless streak with a perfect first half while
Marilyn Dixon and
Alyssa Gluting combined for four saves in a scoreless second half.
Theriault's three scores puts her career total to 42, becoming the second Stag all-time to break the 40-goal plateau. She also tied the program record with 15 game-winning tallies, matching Abby Allan's mark set in 1999.
"I'm very happy that Maddy got past the 100-point mark," Coach Barrett said. "I think she's certainly one of the most prolific scorers in our program history and to be one of three to achieve this mark is appropriate for what her career has been to date."
Fairfield runs their unbeaten streak to 12-straight matches and have now won three in-a-row.
The Stags will stay in the Garden State when they travel to Rider on Wednesday at 6pm.
