JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Katelyn Cook put down a match-leading 18 kills to lead Fairfield University Volleyball to a 3-1 victory over host Saint Peter's in MAAC action on Friday night in Saint Peter's. Cook was one of three Stags to post double-digit kills in the road triumph.
With their fifth consecutive win, the Stags improve to 10-4 overall and 4-0 in the MAAC. The Peacocks slip to 5-10 and remain winless at 0-4 in league contests.
Cook's 18 kills came on .310 hitting from the pins. On the right side,
Mamie Krubally and
Emma Bortolotti chipped in 11 and 10 finishers respectively.
Maya Walker led the middles with nine kills at a .438 clip, and the duo of
Harlan Wyche and
Allie Elliott supplemented the offense with five kills apiece.
Fairfield's 6-2 offense was run to a .263 hitting percentage by
Zofia Sykut's 26 assists and 24 from
Abby Jandro.
Defensively, the back row was headed by Elliott and
Nicole Macalintal, who each picked up 11 digs. The Stags also racked up eight team blocks with Krubally, Wyche and Walker each getting a hand on four send-backs. Fairfield's defense limited Saint Peter's to a .170 hitting percentage.
Sibana Gonzalez Acevedo led the Peacocks with 15 kills and nine digs. Karolina Rodriguez Mendez finished with 12 kills on .381 hitting to go along with six blocks.
Fairfield Volleyball returns to the court tomorrow, traveling from Jersey City to Lawrenceville to challenge Rider at 2 p.m. The Broncs are 4-0 in the MAAC as a part of a 6-8 overall mark after a 3-1 win this evening against Sacred Heart.
