Stags Complete Weekend Sweep with 3-0 Win over Siena

Moon shines with four kills from the libero spot to go along with 15 digs

FAIRFIELD, Conn. — Fairfield University Volleyball completed a clean sweep of its MAAC weekend at Leo D. Mahoney Arena with a 3-0 win over visiting Siena on Saturday afternoon. The Stags took the match by set scores of 25-17, 25-17, and 25-20 to lock up their eighth consecutive win.

Fairfield moves to 7-0 in the MAAC as a part of a 13-4 overall mark. Siena, which won the first end of its Connecticut trip with a 3-2 victory at Sacred Heart on Friday, heads home at 8-12 overall and 4-3 in league action.

"We weren't as sharp as last night, but for the second half of a back-to-back, I'm happy with how we came out and took care of business on our home court," said Head Coach Nancy Somera. "We still have some work to do on our mid-match adjustments and keeping pace when our opponents change it up."

Fairfield's balanced attack saw nine different players contribute a kill. Mamie Krubally led the effort with 11 kills on .474 hitting from the right side. Across the court, Allie Elliott hit .500 for the second consecutive day, turning in eight kills on 16 errorless swings.

The unexpected star of the Fairfield offense was Delaney Moon. The sophomore libero put away a career-best four kills from the back row courtesy of a dump over, a pair of swings, and one serendipitous dig that cleared the net and found the court for a point.

Supplementing the attack, Maya Walker had six kills, Katelyn Cook added five, Lindsey Healey had three, and the duo of Harlan Wyche and Emma Bortolotti put down two apiece.

Accounting for the last of the Stags' 42 kills was Abby Jandro, who went over on two from the setter position for a kill to go along with 23 assists. Zofia Sykut chipped in 11 assists as the pair led Fairfield to a .283 hitting percentage.

The Stags added seven points from beyond the end line, led by three aces from Cook. Sykut served up two winners, and Wyche and Jandro each had one.

In addition to her offensive heroics, Moon led all players in back row with 15 digs. Cook notched 11 and Elliott had nine from the back row. At the net, Wyche continued to lead the blocking corps with a hand in eight of Fairfield's 10 blocks. Bortolotti chipped in three stuffs and Elliott added two to her statline.

Siena was guided by Mary Claire Deacy, who accounted for nearly half of their 31 kills with 14 on .452 hitting. Autumn Willmott led the Saints' defense with 10 digs donning the libero kit.

Another home weekend in on tap for the Stags when Fairfield welcomes Iona (7-14, 2-5 MAAC) and Manhattan (2-14, 0-7 MAAC) to Mahoney Arena on Oct. 17-18. Admission is free for all fans to all regular season home matches this season.
