Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Stags Win Ninth-Straight with Road Victory over Merrimack

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Fairfield University Women's Basketball team won their ninth-straight game with another dominant second half performance leading to a 74-55 win over Merrimack. With the win, the Stags stay in sole possession of first place in the conference with a 9-0 mark and also tie for the national lead with their eighth road win of the year.

Fairfield (15-3; 9-0 MAAC) outscored the Warriors 28-13 in the third quarter to take control of the game. The Stags were led by three Road Runners in double-figures with Cyanne Coe tallying a team and career-high 18, Meghan Andersen adding 12, and Emina Selimovic following with 10.

"Cy has just been getting better and better as the year has gone on," Head Coach Carly Thibault-DuDonis said. "She showed some really good poise and balance. Her teammates found her when she cut to the rim and when she ran the floor. They crowded the paint and she did a great job of still going up and finishing."

The team shot a combined 73 percent in the third quarter while hitting 11 of their 15 shot attempts. Once again, the Fairfield defense was at the forefront of their decisive run, holding Merrimack without a field goal for seven minutes in the period. Coe would lead the squad with nine points during the quarter including her second "And-1" opportunity of the game.

Jillian Huerter also picked up big baskets for the Stags hitting two 3-pointers, her second increasing the Fairfield lead to 22.

The Stags ended the third quarter on a 7-0 run with Emina Selimovic and Coe hitting layups sandwiched in-between a Sydni Scott 3-pointer.

Fairfield would lead by as many as 28 in the fourth quarter with Andersen tallying Fairfield's first seven points in the final frame.

The Stags would shoot 59 percent (19-for-32) from 2-point range in the game, led by a very accurate game by Coe who went 8-for-9 from the floor. Coe also added three steals, two assists, and a block.

Izabela Nicoletti Leite led the team with seven assists, the 13th-time this year she has led Fairfield in helpers. Kaety L'Amoreaux helped the Stags in the rebounding battle with a game-high eight.

Fairfield, who has now won 32-straight games against conference opponents, will look to keep that momentum when they host Quinnipiac for an in-state showdown on Thursday at 7pm at Leo D. Mahoney Arena.
