Stags Head to Canisius on Saturday

BUFFALO, N.Y. – Fresh off one of their most dominant wins in program history, the Fairfield University Women's Basketball team will head to Canisius to face the Golden Griffins on Saturday at 1pm. The Stags enter the game as one of two MAAC teams with unblemished conference records as they hold a 6-0 mark. They are also riding a 29-game winning streak against conference opponents which dates back to the end of the 2022-23 season.

Fairfield netted a season-high 96 points in their dominant win over Niagara, their highest scoring output in regulation against a Division I opponent in 22 years. The Stags also set season-highs with 26 assists and a .608 field goal percentage, which is the sixth-highest mark in a game in program history.

The 47-point win was also the second-highest in program history and just one point shy of the all-time record which was set back in 1990 also against Niagara.

Meghan Andersen led the Stags with 20 points on a very efficient 7-for-9 shooting and a 4-for-5 mark from 3-point range. In just her 48th career game, Andersen is already three 3-pointers shy of 100 in her career and would become the 17th Stag all-time to reach that mark. She is currently fourth all-time with a .368 3-point shooting percentage.

For the 11th time this season, the Stags were led in passing by Izabela Nicoletti Leite who finished with a game-high eight assists. She is currently third in the country in assist-turnover ratio (3.48) and in the top-30 with 5.3 assists. She enters the game four assists shy of 300 in her career.

The Fairfield defense also stifled Niagara and lowered their season defensive number to 54.6 points per game, the lowest in the MAAC and 13th in the country. Against conference opponents, Fairfield is allowing only 46.0 points per game while holding opponents to a .318 field goal percentage and a .226 3-point mark. MAAC opponents have also recorded only 44 assists with 124 turnovers.

Canisius enters play with a 2-4 mark in league play and are winners of two of their last three. Jaela Johnson is the team's leading scorer with 9.9 points per game.

The Stags will return home and host their annual Kids Day Out when they welcome over 3,000 local school kids and face Manhattan on Thursday at 11am.
