WEST POINT, N.Y.-The Fairfield University women's tennis team continued its highly-competitive 2024 Fall Schedule over the weekend at the West Point Invitational hosted by Army West Point on the banks of the Hudson River. During the three-day "Hidden Duals" competition where no team scores are kept, the Stags took on squads that included Sacred Heart, Fordham, NJIT and the host Black Knights.
Excellent doubles play highlighted the weekend for Fairfield, and head coach
Jeff Bricker recognized his squads' effort at West Point saying, "The results don't show it, but we played our best doubles of the season so far against some of the better programs in the region. I'm very pleased with our progress. We still have some work to do on the singles side, but another positive weekend for the women."
Facing Sacred Heart over the weekend, the Stags swept all three doubles matches led by the duo of
Meg Harding and
Anna Neyestani, who registered a pair of wins on the weekend.
Other winning doubles' efforts at West point came from
Victoria Mandma and
Dylin Pizzutello,
Maria Gell and
Sarah Liu,
Lily Malinowski and
Maeve Cassidy, plus Gell teamed with
Nicolette Loeffler for another victory.
In singles' action,
Maeve Cassidy had a standout weekend posting three wins, and
Lily Malinowski had two solo victories.
Victoria Mandma,
Meg Harding Anna Neyestani and
Lucie Tuttle plus
Nicolette Loeffler also had singles' W's on the courts at the United States Military Academy.
Up next, the Stags will be in action this coming weekend (October 4-5-6) at the MAAC Masters Tournament in Hamden, Connecticut hosted by Quinnipiac University, as well as the Army Shootout back in West Point, New York.
