NEW BRITAIN, Conn. - On Saturday afternoon, the Fairfield University men's cross country team took fifth place out of 11 teams at 20th Ted Owen Invitational hosted by Central Connecticut State University in New Britain's Stanley Quarter Park.
UMass Amherst won the team event placing all five scorers in the top eight in the standings to finish with 24 points.
Olli Muniz led a group of four Stags closely packed from 42nd to 50th place, as he covered the 8K course in a time of 27:29.
Bryce Robinson (27:35), Ryan Lindley (27:41) and Gabriel Montoya (27:43) finished just behind Muniz, and Charlie Tessier (28:09)Â rounded of the Fairfield scorers in New Britain.
With their fifth place team finish, Fairfield defeated squads including Army West Point, Marist, FDU, LIU, Saint Francis and Pace.
The Fairfield men's cross country team will now take an extended break from competition until the start of championship season on October 18 at the IC4A/ECAC Championship Meet at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx.
