FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Freshman
Devin Zachry earned the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Hercules Tires Offensive Player and Rookie of the Week awards after scoring a pair of goals for the Fairfield University men's soccer team last week. The announcement was made Monday afternoon by the conference.
Zachry opened the week with his first collegiate goal, bringing the Stags within a 4-3 margin after he connected with his shot in the 88
th minute. He followed up one game later with his second goal of the season, giving the Stags a 2-1 lead in the 29
th minute before Lafayette College rallied in the second half. Zachry took four shots during the week with three being on goal over the two games.
The forward leads the team in scoring with his two goals, giving him four points on the season. He is the only Fairfield student-athlete with multiple goals on the season.
Fairfield, under Head Coach
Krystian Witkowski, will play one game this week, hosting Stonehill College on Wednesday, September 4 at Lessing Field. The match is scheduled for 7 pm. After Stonehill, the Stags will begin a four-game road trip that includes stops at LIU, Vermont, Columbia, and UConn.
