FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Soccer team netted a season-high seven goals from six different goal scorers as the Stags won their fourth-straight match with a 7-1 victory over Iona.
Allie Kirby was the lone Stag to score twice as the squad also saw scored from
Elle Scott,
Caroline Kelly,
Alex Darcy,
Sam Kersey, and
Ashlyn Walsh.
Reagan Klarmann tied a Lessing Field record with three assists while Scott added a pair of helpers.
Meghan Carragher,
Sam Erickson, and
Dana Nadda rounded out the Stags with a point as they each recorded an assist.
"I'm pleased with the performance," Head Coach
David Barrett said. "Obviously we scored some really good goals in the first half and had some really good strikes from distance. I think we showed some really good patience tonight and executed on a really high level."
The Stags score six of their seven goals in the first half and three inside the first 20 minutes. The Stags (6-1, 2-0 MAAC) found their shooting success from distance as most of the scores came from long range. Scott started the scoring output in the fifth minute, but Kelly's line drive shot highlighted the group in the 14
th.
Darcy would make the score 3-0 before Iona netted their only score to cut the deficit to 3-1. It would be all Stags after as Fairfield ended the half with goals from Kersey, Kirby, and Walsh.
Kirby would record her first career multi-goal game by capping the scoring with a goal in the 52
nd minute.
Fairfield dominated every aspect of the match, out-shooting the Gaels 34-3. The seven goals and 34 shots were both season-highs. The Stags also put 18 shots on target with 11 of those saved by the two Iona goalkeepers. Seventeen different Stags attempted at least one shot in the match.
The Stags also attempted 14 corner kicks compared to just one for Iona.
The Stags have now won four-straight matches while scoring 21 goals during that stretch. The win improves Fairfield's record to 6-1 with a perfect 2-0 mark in the MAAC.
Fairfield will close out their five-match homestand with a visit from Princeton on Wednesday at 7pm.
