Baseball Adds John Lagerfeldt as Volunteer Assistant Coach

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Baseball team has announced the addition of John Lagerfeldt as the program's volunteer assistant coach. Lagerfeldt brings four years of coaching experience with stops at Greenville University and the University of Bridgeport.

"Coach Lagerfeldt brings a knowledgeable expertise in recruiting software and analytics for baseball," Head Coach Bill Currier said. "He will be an excellent teacher of the game in our Stag program, as well as bring positive energy every day to enhance our success even more."

Lagerfeldt spent the last two seasons as an assistant coach at the University of Bridgeport where he was responsible for implementing the team's offensive approach. Last season, the Purple Knights averaged 5.6 runs per game while tallying 118 extra base hits including 35 homers. He also coached baserunning, infield defense, as well as first and third base.

Lagerfeldt started his coaching journey with two seasons at his alma mater Greenville University in Illinois. With the Panthers, he was also responsible for coaching hitting, infield defense, and baserunning. While implementing a "New School" baserunning system, he helped increase the team's stolen base count by 26 bags, totaling 92 in his final season. He also designed the team's year-round strength and conditioning program and produced opposing team scouting reports.

Aside from his on-field coaching experience, Lagerfeldt is also an instructor at the CORE Training Academy where he runs youth hitting and catching clinics and conducts private hitting and infield lessons with youth players. He also has experience in data analytics by being trained on proprietary software and data extraction techniques for MLB franchises. In that role, he has reviewed and analyzed over 400 hours of professional baseball game video.

Lagerfeldt joins a Fairfield program who are coming off a spring where they earned their fourth-straight MAAC Regular Season Championship and the top-seed in the MAAC Championships. The Stags totaled 34 wins and advanced to the MAAC Championship Series for the fourth time in their last five chances.
