POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - It was an impressive collegiate debut for Fairfield freshman cross country runner Hannah Snayd as she topped the field of 59 runners at the Marist College Season Opener turning in a time of 17:56.6 over the 5K course at Vassar Farm. Hannah finished more than 21 seconds ahead of the second place finisher Parker O'Brien of Marist.
As a team, the Stags finished in fourth place on Saturday.
Sophomore Mia Strazzella was the next member of head coach Jake Jayworth's team squad across the finish line on Saturday taking 16th place in a time of 19:09.6.
A trio of freshmen in Catherine Gobo (19.48.0), Carlina Castro (19:55.2) and Devan Gambello (20:00.5) completed the Fairfield point scores at Marist as they all finished in the top 30.
The quintet of Molly Ryle (20:13.9), Ada Gebauer (20:25.3), Anna Heras (21:24.1), Haley Rieckelman (22:33.5) and Alexandra Messina (22:43.2). rounded out the squad's finishers in the 2024 season opener.
The Stags return to competition is two weeks at the Manhattan College Invitational that will take place on the Twin Ponds on the Ponds course in Montgomery, New York which will also be the site of the MAAC Championship Meet on November 2.
