POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y.-The Fairfield University men's cross country squad opened its 2024 campaign on Saturday morning at the Marist College Season Opener at Vassar Farm, and the Stags took sixth place as team.
Perennial Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference men's cross country power and #15 nationally-ranked Iona took first place in the team standings at Marist, as the Gaels finished one-two-three and had seven of the top eight finishers.
Junior Ryan Lindley was the first member of head coach Jake Jayworth's team to cross the finish line on Saturday, covering the 6K course in a time of 19:34.2 (23rd place).
Newcomers George Hohenleitner (20:05.5), Bryce Robinson (20:07.1) and Gabriel Montoya (20:14.8) were the next Stags across the line in Poughkeepsie, with sophomore Olli Muniz (20:39.7) rounding out Fairfield's scoring group in Saturday's season lid lifter.
Freshman Charlie Tessier (20:54.8) sophomore Colin Shand (20:56.1), junior Jack Putnam (21:20.5) plus second-year Chase Orciuch (21:29.3) completed the Fairfield finishers in the 75-runner event.
The Stags return to competition is two weeks at the Manhattan College Invitational that will take place on the Twin Ponds on the Farm course in Montgomery, New York which will also be the site of the MAAC Championship Meet on November 2.
