FAIRFIELD, Conn.-The Fairfield University women's tennis team continued its strong play of late earning the squad's third straight win and remaining undefeated in conference play with a 7-0 home win over the Rider University Broncs on a chilly Saturday afternoon at the Walsh Athletic Center Tennis Courts. The Stags are now 6-8 overall and 3-0 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. Rider falls to 2-10 overall and 0-2 in the MAAC.
Fairfield took Friday's double point on the strength of victories at the number one flight for the duo of Maeve Cassidy and Sarah Liu, 6-0, and a win at number three from Laina Campos and Nicolette Loeffler, 6-2.
The Stags stormed through singles play getting straight victories from Katarina Plumtree at number one, Nicolette Loeffler at number two, Francesca Karman at number three, Lily Malinowski, her eighth straight singles win, at number four and Maeve Cassidy at number six.
Scarlett Hutchinson rounded out Saturday's sweep with a three-set, comeback, super tiebreaker win at number six singles.
Said head coach Jeff Bricker, "The women came out with a ton of energy from the start and played really well. I loved the fight that they all played with today. We are all looking forward to Senior Day tomorrow to celebrate Katarina and Scarlett!"
Up next, the women's tennis team will play its final non-conference match of 2024 and celebrate Senior Day on Sunday at 12 noon when the Stonehill College Skyhawks come to the Walsh Athletic Center Tennis Courts.
