Stags Slug Four Homers in Midweek Win Against Stony Brook

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Baseball team slugged four home runs in a 13-7 midweek victory against Stony Brook on Tuesday. The reigning MAAC Co-Player of the Week Matt Bergevin, JP Kuczik, Luke Nomura, and Matt Bucciero all homered for the Stags who brought their season total to 74 long balls.

The Fairfield offense was highlighted by a seven-run fifth inning that saw three-run homers off the bats of Bergevin and Kuczik. The round tripper by Bergevin was his fourth in his last four games and his 16th of the season, which ties him with his teammate Ethan Hibbard for the most in the conference.

After a Tyler Kipp RBI single, Kuczik would bring home three with his second homer of the spring.

Fairfield would increase their lead to double-digits with three runs in the eighth starting with a solo homer by Nomura followed by a two-run shot by Bucciero.

The Stags have now recorded 74 home runs which leads the MAAC and ranks near the top in the country.

Nomura led a trio of Stags with multiple hits as he had three while Bucciero and Sturino each picked up a pair.

Ben Alekson earned the fourth win of his rookie season allowing just two runs in his five innings of work. Kevin Kell tossed two hitless innings out of the pen.

The Stags are back in action on Friday when they start a conference road series against Marist at 1pm.
