Stags Start Road Trip with 8-4 Win at Marist

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Seven different Stags collected RBI hits and Jack Erbeck got out of bases loaded jam in the bottom of the ninth as the Fairfield University Baseball team tallied an 8-4 win over Marist to start their seven-game road trip. Every Stag starter picked up at least one hit with seven different student-athletes scoring and driving in one run.

The Stags (25-20; 14-2 MAAC) trailed 4-0 after Marist put up all four of their runs in the first inning. They got all those runs back with a five-run third inning as they collected six hits in the frame.

Ethan Hibbard and Matt Bucciero tallied back-to-back RBI singles to get the Stags on the board and cut the deficit in half at 4-2. Hibbard picked up his 57th RBI of the season, tying Matt Zaffino for the second-most in program history.

Zach Selinger, who was batting over .480 in MAAC games entering the contest, followed with a RBI double. Tyler Kipp had the big hit of the frame as he drove in the tying and go-ahead runs with a two-run single.

Fairfield would add on to their lead with a Dean Ferrara single and a Luke Nomura sacrifice fly in the fifth. Nick Sturino completed the scoring with a RBI single in the next frame.

On the mound, the duo of Peter Ostensen, and Erbeck combined for 5.1 scoreless innings while Chris DiFiore started the game and went the first 4.2. They had to work hard as Marist loaded the bases with one out in the sixth but Ostensen got an infield fly and ground out to end the threat.

The Red Foxes also loaded the bases with one out in the ninth, but Erbeck was able to get back-to-back strikeouts to close out the game.

Five different Stags picked up multiple hits in the contest, including the MAAC's hit leader Ferrara who now has 73 on the year, placing him in the top-10 in program history in base knocks. Selinger raised his batting average to .482 in MAAC games.

With the threat of rain in the forecast for Sunday, the two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 12:30pm.
