POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – #25 Fairfield University Women's Lacrosse rans its winning streak to 10 games with a 16-5 win at Marist on a rainy afternoon in Poughkeepsie.
Libby Rowe racked up seven points in the victory, and
Elizabeth Talluto scored five goals for the third consecutive game.
With the win, the Stags improve to 10-1 on the season and are the only MAAC unbeaten at 4-0 in conference play. Fairfield has allowed 10 goals or fewer in every game during the 10-game winning streak. The setback drops Marist to 3-8 overall and 2-2 in conference outings.
Rowe's career-high seven-point outing consisted of her fourth straight hat trick in addition to four assists. Talluto's five goals ran her team-leading total to 41 markers on the season. She also dished out an assist to improve to her team-best point total to 53.
Haley Burns also netted a hat trick – the first of her career – punctuated by a no-look marker in the fourth quarter. Reigning MAAC Rookie of the Week
Kelly Haggerty added two goals, with single tallies from
Amanda Kozak,
Rylee Harrell and
Mary Henry. Henry's free-position goal was her first career point as a Stag.
Rounding out the attack, Kozak and
Brooke Marotti each distributed one assist.
In the midfield,
Brynn Donnelly pulled down 10 draw controls. Burns added four ground balls and Rowe also won four in the transition game.
Defensively,
Lindsey Barnes filled out the statsheet with three caused turnovers and eight groundballs to highlight the effort. Fairfield entered the day ranked 12th in the nation in scoring defense.
Claire Morris made five saves in the Stags' cage.
Morris was across the field from her sister, Megan Morris, who made 10 saves helming the Marist goal. The Red Foxes' offense was led by Kerri Gutenberger with two goals, an assist, four ground balls and six draw controls.
Up next, the Stags make the longest southern trek of the season for a noon MAAC meeting at Mount St. Mary's on Saturday, April 6. The Mount is 4-7 overall and 2-2 in the MAAC after an 8-5 win today at Canisius.
Action returns to Rafferty Stadium next week for the final two home contests of the regular season with visits from Quinnipiac (April 10) and Manhattan (April 13).
