#25 Stags Visit Marist in Midweek MAAC Action

Fairfield is seeking its 10th consecutive victory

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- #25 Fairfield University Women's Lacrosse brings a nine-game winning streak and an unbeaten MAAC record to Poughkeepsie, N.Y. for a Wednesday, April 3 meeting with Marist. Opening draw from Tenney Stadium is slated for 4 p.m.

#25 Fairfield University Stags (9-1, 3-0 MAAC)
  • Fairfield is ranked by the IWLCA for the fourth consecutive week, clocking in at #25.
  • The Stags are eying their first double-digit win streak since claiming 11 consecutive victories en route to the 2019 MAAC Championship.
  • Most recently, the Stags used an 8-0 third quarter to pull away from Canisius, 19-8, on Saturday at Rafferty Stadium and emerge as the MAAC's last unbeaten team at 3-0.
  • Fairfield leads the MAAC and ranks 12th in the nation in scoring defense, ceding just 8.60 goals per game.
  • The Stags have allowed 10 or fewer goals in every game of their current nine-game winning streak and are 23-1 over last two seasons when conceding 10 goals or less.

Marist College Red Foxes (3-7, 2-1 MAAC)
  • Marist suffered its first MAAC loss this past Saturday with a 19-15 setback at Rider.
  • The Red Foxes rank ninth in the conference in scoring offense with 9.00 goals per game and slot 10th in defense, allowing 14.26 goals per contest.
  • Kerri Gutenberger leads the Marist attack with 26 goals and 33 total points. Kelly Trotta has also scored 26 goals for the Foxes.
  • Marist starting goalkeeper Megan Morris is the younger sister of Fairfield keeper Claire Morris.

Series History
  • Fairfield has won the last six meetings with Marist to take a 25-11 lead in the all-time series.
  • The six-game stretch is the longest for either side in the series, which dates back to Fairfield's first season as a varsity program in 1997.
  • Due to multiple postseason meetings in recent years, only three of the last 10 encounters between the Stags and Red Foxes have taken place in Poughkeepsie. Fairfield is 10-5 all-time against Marist at Tenney Stadium.

Up Next
  • The Stags make the longest southern trek of the season this weekend for a noon MAAC meeting at Mount St. Mary's on Saturday, April 6.
  • The Mount is 3-7 overall and 1-2 in the MAAC heading into a Wednesday game at Canisius.
  • Action returns to Rafferty Stadium next week for the final two home contests of the regular season with visits from Quinnipiac (April 10) and Manhattan (April 13).
