PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Fairfield University rowing teams traveled to the Kerr Cup this weekend with the men's squad placing a varsity 8, a second varsity 8, and a third varsity 8 entry and the women's program entering the varsity 8, the second varsity 8, the varsity 4, and the JV 4.
The men's varsity 8 started the morning for Fairfield by taking third place in its heat, crossing the line in 6:15.2. The group came back for the grand final and secured sixth place based on its finish of 6:25.3. The Stags were represented by
Michael Hamilton, Sam Elliott,
Zalan Kovacs,
Luca Tarricone,
Spencer Chidley,
Ryan Wrynn, Eay Ray,
Brady Stergion, and coxswain Maddy Gross.
The women's varsity 8 used an early morning start to capture third in its heat based on its performance of 7:00.5. That timing sent the Stags to the grand final which ended with a fourth-place placement by completing the distance in 7:03.9. Arianna Welton, Sarah Wendling, Victoria Conrad, Molly Squire, Kathryn Bergstrom, Megan Blair, Emily Regan, Catherine Morrissey, and coxswain Marianna Kalin comprised the Fairfield boat.
The men's second varsity 8 garnered a fourth-place finish in its heat by rowing the course in 6:24.4 behind the efforts of
George Voegele,
Mike McCarthy,
Frank DiNatale,
James Penczak, Gerald Malloy,
Jack Cartnick,
Brendan Martin, Nick Tapinis, and coxswain Tom Flynn.
The women's second varsity 8 timed out in 7:02.1 which sent the crew into the grand final where they garnered fourth place by registering a time of 7:14.9. The Stags entry included Lauren Hope, Shawn O'Brien, Miranda Schmidt, Megan Rourke, Kelly Cullen, Zuzanna Janusz, Shaylin Tombs, Sophia Savage, and coxswain Lexi Tomlinson.
The women's varsity 4 commanded a first-place finish in its heat by beating out four other entries, clocking in at 7:45.7. In the grand final, the Stags captured bronze with a time of 7:59.4. Fairfield was represented by Mia Van Mater, Julie Pedrazzi, Ava Forgione, Grace McDonough, and coxswain Alisa Tsavaris.
In the second varsity 4, the Fairfield A (8:16.0) boat took third place and the Fairfield B (8:32.9) secured fourth place in their respective heats. The A entry advanced to the final and garnered sixth place with a time of 9:02.6. The A shell included Lauren Esposito, Catherine Martin, Liv Burghardt, Caity Gregitis, and coxswain Grace Tyska. The B boat consisted of Raquel DeLeo, Cailey Chechitelli, Alyssa Colombrita, Grace Polatsek, and coxswain Caroline Tomlinson.
The men's third varsity 8 finished off the day for Fairfield by taking sixth place in its head based on its time of 6:37.7. The crew included
