Fairfield Sweeps Niagara in Meeting of MAAC Unbeatens

The Stags are 5-0 in conference play after their sixth consecutive win

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield University Women's Tennis defeated Niagara, 4-0, in a meeting of MAAC unbeatens on Saturday at the Walsh Athletic Center courts. The Stags improved to 5-0 in the MAAC with their sixth consecutive win.

Fairfield, which also moved to 9-8 overall, can finish off a perfect MAAC regular season on Monday when Quinnipiac visits the WAC courts. The Bobcats, who are 4-0 in conference play, host Niagara tomorrow. The Purple Eagles move to 8-10 on the season with a 4-1 league mark. The contest was played to a clinch due to inclement weather looming over the proceedings.

Fairfield locked up the doubles point with wins from Sarah Liu and Maeve Cassidy at the top flight as well as Francesca Karman and Lily Malinowski at #2. The #3 doubles match featuring Laina Campos and Nicolette Loeffler went unfinished.

The Stags completed the sweep in short order in singles play on the back of three straight-set wins. First, Malinowski rolled to a 6-2, 6-1 win at #5 followed by a 6-1, 6-2 triumph for Liu at #1 singles. The clincher came from Katarina Plumtree, who polished off a 6-3, 6-0 victory at #2 singles.

Monday's 2 p.m. match with Quinnipiac at the WAC courts will be available live on Playsight. Fairfield has already clinched a berth in the MAAC Championship, set for April 20-21 in West Windsor, N.J.
