POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Fairfield University Men's Tennis ran its winning streak to eight straight matches with a 5-2 victory at Marist on Wednesday evening. The Stags stay unbeaten at 4-0 in the MAAC, moving to 11-8 overall on the spring.
"This was a great win," said Head Coach
Jeff Bricker. "Our guys stayed focus and played well on a very long day, and we're happy to be 4-0 in the MAAC."
As they have done in every MAAC outing of the season, the Stags began Wednesday's contest by taking the doubles point. The duo of
Thomas Smart and
Sam Hodges picked up a 6-1 win in the top flight, and the pair of
Luca Benaibbouche and
Kostas Kollias took a 6-2 victory at #3 doubles. Both tandems are unbeaten in MAAC play, with Benaibbouche and Kollias owning a team-best six match winning streak.
In singles play, the victories came from Smart, Hodges, Kollias and
Griffin Schlesinger. Hodges has won seven straight singles outings, including all four of his MAAC matches as the Stags' #2 singles players. Schlesinger is also unbeaten in the MAAC occupying the #6 slot.
Fairfield Men's Tennis returns to action this Saturday on the WAC Tennis Courts when the Stags host Niagara beginning at 2 p.m.
