Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Stags Shut Down Drexel for Fifth Straight Win

Slater tallies six points to lead the attack

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – A statement performance in all facets of the game propelled Fairfield University Women's Lacrosse to a 12-5 win over visiting Drexel on Saturday afternoon on Conway Field at Rafferty Stadium. Grace Slater paced the Stags' attack with six points.

"That was our most complete game of the season," said Head Coach Laura Field. "It sounds like coach-speak, but we needed everybody to be at their best today – the offense, the defense, the draw group, the bench. Everybody contributed on offense, from scoring goals to making key passes to tracking down ground balls to extend possessions. Our transition game was great with only one failed clear, and our defense and goalkeeping were terrific."

With their fifth straight win, the Stags improve to 5-1 on the season. Fairfield's streak includes two wins over ranked opponents -- #24 UConn and #23 UAlbany – and now a third NCAA postseason participant from last season in Drexel. The Dragons, who were coming off of back-to-back wins over #24 Penn State and #16 Navy, fall to 4-2.

Slater's six-point day consisted of four goals and two assists. Elizabeth Talluto added a hat trick and dished out one helper. The balanced scoring also included five one-goal scorers: Christine Fabrizi, Rylee Harrell, Brooke Marotti, Haley Burns and Amanda Kozak.

The defense limited Drexel – an NCAA at-large pick out of the CAA last spring – to its lowest scoring output since netting just three goals in a 15-3 goal to #6 Stony Brook in 2023. The Dragons scored two goals in the first quarter and just one apiece in the second, third and fourth frames.

Thirteen of the Dragons' 15 turnovers were of the caused variety, including three apiece for Lindsey Barnes and Elizabeth Myers as well as three in the midfield from Rylee Harrell. Barnes, who entered the day leading the MAAC in ground balls, nabbed four more grounders today.

In the cage, Claire Morris made nine saves, stopping over 50 percent of the shots she faced for the second straight game.

Ellie Wall scored two of Drexel's five goals. Corinne Bednarik – a preseason All-CAA honoree and one of the nation's leading scorers – was limited to just one goal and one assist.

Up next, Fairfield Women's Lacrosse wraps up the non-conference slate on Conway Field at Rafferty Stadium with a visit from Sacred Heart on Saturday, March 16. Opening draw is set for 4 p.m. Admission is free for all fans to home regular season games this season.
