JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Fairfield University Women's Basketball's junior 'Road Runner'
Emina Selimovic tallied a career-high 24 points on 11-for-16 shooting leading the No. 25 Stags to their 25th-straight win with a 63-46 final score at Saint Peter's. The win brings Fairfield's overall record to 27-1 with a perfect 19-0 mark in the MAAC. The Stags have also now tallied 15 road wins, representing the most in the country.
"Emina did a really nice job at finding the soft spots in the zone," Head Coach
Carly Thibault-DuDonis said. "She stayed really poised and finished on balance, finishing with contact, and finishing in a crowd. She gave us a huge boost in the first half."
Selimovic was one of two Stags in double-figure joining Mackenzie Daleba who notched 11 on a perfect 4-for-4 shooting from the floor. In total, the Stags shot 54 percent from the floor which is the 10th time this season the Stags have shot at least 50 percent in a game.
Selimovic's hot-shooting night started early as she went 8-for-10 from the floor in the first half as the Stags opened a 34-16 lead after the first 10 minutes. That scoring also included six of the team's 15 first quarter points.
Fairfield dominated in the paint in the first half, out-scoring the Peacocks 22-8 inside the lane. Mackenzie Daleba added to that total and gave the Stags some momentum with back-to-back layups to close the first quarter which led to a 10-0 Fairfield run.
The Stags would also record an 8-0 run in the third quarter, capped by a Selimovic traditional 3-point play to open up their largest lead of the game at 24-points.
For the second time against the Peacocks, the Fairfield defense led the way as they recorded 24 turnovers and scored 28 points off those miscues. The Stags swiped 12 steals led by
Janelle Brown's three.
The Stags also dished out 19 assists led by five by
Kaety L'Amoreaux.
No. 25 Fairfield will head home to the Leo D. Mahoney Arena to close out the regular season against Rider at 2pm. The Stags will try to become the first Stag squad to close out a perfect conference season.
