#19/25 Stags Shut Down Canisius, Roll to Ninth Consecutive Win

Fairfield cedes just two second half goals in the victory

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – #19/25 Fairfield University Women's Lacrosse used an 8-0 third quarter to break open Saturday's MAAC clash with Canisius en route to a 19-8 win on Conway Field at Rafferty Stadium. The victory was the 100th for Head Coach Laura Field as the leader of the Stags.

With their ninth consecutive win, the Stags are 9-1 on the season and 3-0 in the MAAC. Canisius dips to 8-3 overall with a 1-2 conference mark.

Already Fairfield's all-time wins leader, Field is 100-46 (.685) in nine seasons leading the Stags and 111-51 (.685) in 10 seasons as a Division I head coach. Today's victory was also the 50th MAAC win for Field, who is 50-12 (.806) all-time in the conference regular season.

There were milestones all over Conway Field today, starting in the circle where Brynn Donnelly tied the program single-game record with 12 draw controls. As a unit, The Stags dominated the draw to the tune of a 22-7 advantage. Libby Rowe pitched in five draw controls, with Haley Burns and Eva Petrone each winning two.

On attack, Amanda Kozak scored a goal and an assist to eclipse 100 career points for her career. Meanwhile, Elizabeth Talluto netted a game-high five goals to move into a tie for second place all-time at Fairfield with 190 points. Talluto is tied with Erin Rigby '10 and trails only the 257 points put up by Hall of Famer Kristen Coleman '11 in her standout career.

In addition to Talluto's five goals, Kelly Haggerty had a career-best four markers and Libby Rowe notched a hat trick. Rylee Harrell and Maggie Fort each scored twice from the midfield, with single tallies coming from Kozak, Burns and Brooke Marotti.

Working behind the cage, Sarah Bucher was the Stags' top facilitator with three assists. Burns dished out two while Marotti and Kozak had one apiece.

The defensive effort, which held Canisius to a season-low eight goals, was led by Julia Rigolizzo with a caused turnover and four ground balls. Claire Morris started in the cage and made two saves, with Phoebe Proctor working the fourth quarter and turning away one shot.

Fairfield has now held five consecutive opponents to single-digit goals. The Stags have allowed 10 tallies or fewer in every game of their current nine-game winning streak.

"I think the first half was more reflective of the matchup and of how talented Canisius is. But I thought our team made some great adjustments to their approach that helped us pull away in the second half," said Field. "The draw group was excellent again today. The way we dominated possession helped us pull away and stopped Canisius from getting into a flow where their offense can be at its most dangerous."

Meg Hiltz led the Griffs with three goals and an assist.

The Stags will play a pair of road games next week, first heading to Marist on Wednesday, April 3. The Red Foxes are 3-7 overall and 2-1 in the MAAC after a 19-15 loss at Rider this afternoon.
