#19/25 Stags Host Iona in Midweek MAAC Action at Rafferty Stadium

Fairfield seeks its eighth straight win with a Wednesday visit from the Gaels

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – #19/25 Fairfield University Women's Lacrosse brings a seven-game winning streak back to Conway Field at Rafferty Stadium for a Wednesday, March 27 meeting with Iona. Opening draw in the midweek MAAC clash is set for 3 p.m.
 
#19/25 Fairfield University Stags (7-1, 1-0 MAAC)
  • Following Saturday's 14-7 win at Niagara, the Stags remained at #19 in the USA Lacrosse Magazine Poll and dipped one spot to #25 in the IWLCA/ILWomen Poll.
  • The Stags stifled the MAAC's highest-scoring offense, as the Purple Eagles entered the game averaging 15.75 goals per contest.
  • Fairfield has conceded two or fewer goals in 11 of its last 12 quarters.
  • On the season, the Stags rank 17th nationally in scoring defense with an even 9.00 goals allowed per game.
  • Claire Morris heads that effort in the cage, leading the MAAC with a .466 save percentage, while Lindsey Barnes is 15th nationally with 3.13 ground balls per outing.
  • Offensively, Elizabeth Talluto leads the attack with 26 goals and 36 total points.
  • Libby Rowe paces the Stags in assists with 12.
 
Iona University Gaels (6-2, 1-0 MAAC)
  • Iona also won its MAAC opener on Saturday, hosting and defeating The Mount by a 12-7 tally.
  • The lone common opponent between the Stags and Gaels is Holy Cross. The Crusaders nipped the Stags, 17-16, on opening day and cruised to a 19-6 win over Iona on March 5.
  • The Gaels are paced offensively by Micaela FitzPatrick with 38 points fueled by a team-best 21 assists.
  • Emily Stewart is the top goal scorer for Iona with 24 markers this spring.
  • A former MAAC Rookie of the year and Midfielder of the Year, Kira Virada leads Iona in draw controls (43), ground balls (20) and caused turnovers (20) while also posting 20 goals and eight assists.
 
Series History
  • Fairfield is 22-0 all-time against Iona – 19-0 in the MAAC regular season in addition to playoff wins in 2008, 2011 and 2018.
  • In last season's encounter in New Rochelle, the Stags were led by four goals from Libby Rowe and hat tricks by Elizabeth Talluto and Ellie Grefenstette en route to a 15-9 victory.
