FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Baseball team dropped the rubber game against the NJIT Highlanders by an 8-5 final score. Three Stags tallied multiple hits, led by two more hits and two more RBI from
Ethan Hibbard. In total, the Stags had 23 baserunners in the contest but would strand 17 of those in the setback.
NJIT scored five of the game's first six runs with the only Stag to cross the plate coming off a sacrifice fly from
Matt Bucciero in the first.
The Stags edged closer in the second on a
Matt Bergevin sacrifice fly to center and an
Ethan Hibbard line drive RBI single.
Fairfield would get a baserunner on in every other inning while stranding the bases loaded in the sixth.
On the mound,
Peter Ostensen logged valuable innings as he went 4.2 innings striking out five and giving up two runs.
Chris DiFiore was at the forefront of the trio of pitchers as he fired 3.1 frames surrendering just one run while striking out four.
Of the nine batters, six Stags reached base three times as the squad drew 12 walks.
Fairfield is back in midweek action when they host UMass Lowell on Tuesday at 3pm.
