Softball Falls To Bryant, Maryland

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Morgan Sylvestre and Allie Bridgman each collected three hits in a pair of games at the University of Maryland Tournament this afternoon. The Stags dropped a pair of games o the final day of the event, falling to Bryant University by a 7-1 score and the University of Maryland by a 10-2 count.

Sylvestre picked up all three of her hits in the opening game while Bridgman added a pair of singles against Bryant. She singled in the first, third, and sixth innings and stole a base in the game. Bridgman accounted for the Stags' lone run with a solo home run in the fourth inning. Bryant put the game's first runs on the scoreboard with five coming in the second inning. During that rally, the Bulldogs accounted for their runs with four singles and two doubles.

Bryant added to their run total with a pair of runs in the sixth inning, a two-run shot that cleared the left field fence.

In the second game, the Stags grabbed an early lead with a pair of runs in the top of the first inning. Charli Warren opened the game by drawing a base on balls and went to second when Sylvestre pushed a bunt to back to the circle. After a ground out, Allie Bridgman drove a pitch over the left center field fence, putting the Stags in front by a 2-0 count.

Maryland cut into the lead with a run in the bottom of the inning, opening its half of the frame with back-to-back single followed by a walk and a sacrifice fly to make the score 2-1. Fairfield's lead remained intact until the third inning when the Terrapins secured its own two-run homer that pushed the home team in the lead at 3-2.

The Terrapins gained control of the contest when it scored five times in the fourth inning, using a pair of two-run homers and an RBI triple to collect a six-run advantage. The game ended in the bottom of the sixth inning after Maryland gained two more runs courtesy of back-to-back extra base hits.

Fairfield plays a single non-conference game on Wednesday when it travels to Sacred Heart University before opening Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play and starting its home slate with a three-game set against Iona University on March 23-24.
