EDISON, N.J. – After averaging 31.0 points in a 2-0 week to help Fairfield University Men's Basketball lock up the second seed in the upcoming MAAC Championship,
Brycen Goodine has been named the final MAAC Player of the Week of the 2023-24 season. Goodine's week included a 37-point outburst in Thursday's home win over Canisius.
Goodine's 31.0 points per game were earned on 21-for-31 shooting from the floor. He went 11-for-19 from three-point range and 9-for-10 from the free throw line as the Stags knocked off Canisius on Senior Night on ESPNU, then erased a 16-point halftime deficit to close the regular season with a victory at The Mount on Saturday. Goodine added 2.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists per contest for the week.
With his 37 points against the Griffs, Goodine owns the two highest-scoring games in the MAAC this season after previously netting 40 in the Jan. 5 win at Siena. His 25 points at The Mount ran his count to six 20-point games and 23 double-figure scoring games this season. Goodine ranks third on the Stags with 14.6 points per game and his 75 made three-pointers rank 10th in a single-season in Fairfield history. He is the nation's second-most accurate three-point shooter at .490 from distance.
Goodine and the Stags have posted their first 20-win season since 2011-12 (22-15) and their best conference finish (14-6) since the 2010-11 team won the MAAC Regular Season Championship at 15-3. Fairfield begins the 2024 MAAC Championship in Atlantic City on Wednesday, March 13 at 9 p.m. The Stags will challenge the winner of Tuesday's matchup between seventh-seeded Iona and 10th-seeded Manhattan.
