WEST POINT, N.Y.-After dropping the doubles point, the Fairfield University men's tennis team stormed back to win four singles matches and notch an impressive 4-2 win over the Binghamton University Bearcats, the preseason Northeast Conference favorites, in a match played at Lichtenberg Tennis Center at the United States Military Academy on Saturday afternoon. The Stags are now 2-5 on the season, and the Bearcats move to 2-4 in 2024.
With the contest tied at 2-2 after Fairfield picked up singles wins by graduate student Thomas Smart at number one, 6-1, 6-3, and sophomore Kostas Kollias at number five, 6-2, 6-2; the Stags finished off the victory with triumphs by graduate student Griffin Schlesinger in the sixth slot, 7-5, 6-4, and strong comeback by classmate Nick Condos at number three, 5-7, 6-4, 6-1.
Junior Sam Hodges was leading his match that was not completed at the number two flight, 6-1, 3-6, 6-5. Hodges rallied from being down 1-5 in the third set.
The Fairfield men's tennis team will next be in action one week from today on Saturday, February 17 when the Stags travel to their indoor home away from home, the Tennis Club of Trumbull, to host the Rams of Fordham University. First serve is slated for 6:00 p.m.
