Total Team Effort Lifts Men’s Tennis To Win Over Fordham

Stags Top The Rams, 6-1, On Saturday Night

TRUMBULL, Conn..-The Fairfield University men's tennis squad put together perhaps its best total team effort so far in 2024 on Saturday night at the Tennis Club of Trumbull, as the Stags topped the Fordham University Rams, 6-1. Fairfield improves to 3-5 on the season with the victory; while the visitors slip to 0-4 on the young campaign.

The hosts grabbed Saturday's all-important doubles point to open the evening on the good foot, as after splitting at number two and three doubles, the Stags' top pairing of Nick Condos and Thomas Smart earned a clinching 7-6 triumph.

After battling for the double point, Fairfield stormed through singles play posting straight sets wins in five of six matches, as Smart at number one, Sam Hodges at number two, Keean Shah at number four, Kostas Kollias playing at number five and Griffin Schlesinger in the sixth slot, all earned victories.

Head coach Jeff Bricker was pleased with his team's total performance on Saturday night stating, "It was a great win today against a Fordham team that beat us last year. It was a solid team victory. Winning the doubles point was big to get us going as well as we fed off that momentum."

After taking a two week break from dual match action, the men's tennis team will return to the courts on Monday, March 4 when the Stags open a three-match Spring Break trip to North Carolina taking on Gardner-Webb University.  Action against the Bulldogs is slated to begin at 3:00 p.m.
