Stags Start MAAC Play With Win Over the Mount

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Kaety L'Amoreaux neared a double-double with 23 points and nine rebounds while also dishing out six assists as the Fairfield University Women's Basketball team started Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play with a 76-61 victory over Mount St. Mary's. With the win, the Stags have now won six-straight conference opening games including all three under Head Coach Carly Thibault-DuDonis.

"I think everyone stepped up in different ways," Coach Carly said. "There were times when our offense was great. Iza and Kaety moved the ball well. I think there was times when our defense was stifling and I think the key for us is to keep doing both of those for longer consistent stretches."

The Stags (7-3, 1-0 MAAC) was led by their sophomore guard L'Amoreaux who recorded her second-straight 20+ point game. Emina Selimovic added 18 points on 8-for-13 shooting and Meghan Andersen added to the trio in double-figures with 10.

Fairfield led for over 37 minutes in the game, grabbing the lead for good with an 11-0 scoring run in the first quarter. Izabela Nicoletti Leite's fast break layup tied the game at 7-7 and a pair of L'Amoreaux free throws put the home side in front. L'Amoreaux would record seven-straight points during the run, including a traditional 3-point play, her fourth in the last two games.

Fairfield grabbed a 20-point lead before halftime on an Andersen bucket and would go into the intermission with a 40-26 lead.

The Mount would attempt a comeback in the third quarter by netting eight-straight points to cut their deficit to 11, but the Stags would lead by double-figures the rest of the way.

Fairfield ran their lead to as many as 24 in the second half by shooting 57 percent in the final 20 minutes including a 76 percent success rate inside the 3-point line.

L'Amoreaux filled out the stat sheet, leading the Stags in: points (23), rebounds (nine), and steals (four) while also tying a career-high six assists.

Fairfield will hit the road to meet Rider to begin the 2025 calendar year on Thursday, Jan. 2 at 6pm.
