Stags Travel to Georgetown, Saturday on FS2

Opening tip from Capital One Arena is set for 4 p.m.

Fairfield, Conn. – Fairfield University Men's Basketball continues its three-game, season-opening road trip on Saturday, Nov. 9 at Georgetown. Tip-off from Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C. is scheduled for 4 p.m. on FS2.

LAST TIME OUT
The Stags were led offensively by 13 points from Louis Bleechmore. Prophet Johnson neared a double-double with nine points and a game-high 11 rebounds in a 96-58 setback at Rhode Island.

Johnson and Noah Best each scored nine points, setting the pace for six players to net the first points of their Fairfield careers. Jamie Bergens added seven points as well as four assists in his Fairfield debut, Kyle Jenkins had five, and the duo of Deon Perry and Isaac Munkadi chipped in two points apiece.

A total of eight players made their first appearances in a Fairfield uniform with Braden Sparks and Makuei Riek also taking the court for the first time as Stags.

The Stags also got six points from Peyton Smith, three by Birima Seck and two from Michael Rogan, making his return to the court after more than 11 months since his last game action.

THE 2024-25 STAGS
Fairfield's eight returners are comprised of three players who appeared in 25+ games last season (Bleechmore, Seck, Smith), four who played in between eight and 17 games (Curtis, Davidson, McPartlan) and one who did not see game action in 2024-25 (Ganton).

The Stags 10 newcomers are made up of seven student-athletes who have spent time on a Division I roster (Bergens, Best, Jenkins, Johnson, Perry, Riek, Sparks), one true freshmen (Munkadi), and two sophomores in their first season of college basketball (May, Ostop).

THE GEORGETOWN UNIVERSITY HOYAS
Georgetown opened its 2024-25 campaign with an 85-77 win over Lehigh on Wednesday in our nation's capital. Micah Peavy and Thomas Sorber split the team high of 20 points for the Hoyas. Sorber also reeled in 13 rebounds to complete a double-double.

Coming off of a 9-23 campaign, Georgetown was tabbed for ninth of 11 teams in the Big East Preseason Coaches' Poll. Jayden Epps was named to the Preseason All-Big East Third Team after averaging 18.5 points per game in 2023-24. Epps netted 17 points in Wednesday's win over Lehigh.

ALL-TIME SERIES
Georgetown has won the last six meetings in the all-time series to build a 15-4 advantage on a ledger that dates back to 1960. The teams met on a near-annual basis from the 1959-60 to the 1976-77 seasons, but only four times since. The Stags and Hoyas had a "one-off" meeting in Sacramento in December of 1994, and most recently played in three straight campaigns from 2005-07.

Fairfield's victories in the series are comprised of two wins at Alumni Hall in 1965 and 1975, a 1967 triumph at the New Haven Arena, and the Stags' lone win in Washington D.C. in January of 1974.

VISITING OLD FRIENDS
Georgetown Head Coach Ed Cooley was the head coach of the Stags for five seasons from 2006-11, compiling a 92-69 record.

Saturday's game will be the 13th time that Fairfield has met its former head coach as the leader of another program.

Previously, the Stags met Cooley's Providence Friars on five occasions (2011-23), played Mitch Buonaguro and the Siena Saints six times (2010-13), and hosted Paul Cormier's Dartmouth Big Green in the 2015-16 season.

UP NEXT
The Stags conclude their three-game road swing on Tuesday, Nov. 12 at New Hampshire.
