Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Stags Win 11th-Straight Home Match with 1-0 Victory over Merrimack

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Emilie Cook headed in the eventual game-winning goal off a pass from Reagan Klarmann in the 43rd minute as the Fairfield University Women's Soccer team set a program record with their 11th-straight home match with a 1-0 victory over Merrimack. In net, Katie Wright posted her 14th career shutout while making a season-high six saves.

"I'm glad to get out of this match with a win," Head Coach David Barrett said. "I thought the second half was shaky but we were really, really good in the first half. In the second we were a little undisciplined in some areas and gave them way too many chances. We always want the mentality to win 1-0 so that was really good for us."

The Stags (11-1-1; 6-0-1 MAAC) out-shot the Warriors 17-3 in the first half with seven of those on net. The lone attempt to touch the back of the net came in the 43rd minute when Klarmann sent a ball into the box that Cook was able to redirect with a header to put the Stags up 1-0.

The defense of the Stags would make that goal stand up with Wright picking up six saves, four of those coming in the second half. The biggest of those stops came in the 48th minute as Wright was able to hit away a point-blank shot from Jillian Golden.

Klarmann recorded her fifth assist of the season, setting a new personal best. She has recorded all 13 of her points in conference matches and leads the league in points and assists in MAAC contests.

The 11-straight home wins sets a new program record for the Stags and is the third longest active streak in the nation. Their .885 winning percentage is also in the top-5 in Division I.

Fairfield will play the next two games on the road, starting with a match at Mount St. Mary's on Saturday at noon.
