Three-Match MAAC Road Swing Starts Across Town on Wednesday

Fairfield enters the week at 11-0 in the MAAC

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – After five straight matches within the confines of Leo D. Mahoney Arena, Fairfield University Volleyball kicks off a three-match road swing with one of the shortest possible trips in all of Division I – a Wednesday jaunt across town to Sacred Heart. First serve inside the Pitt Center is slated for 7 p.m.

Fairfield University Stags (13-10, 11-0 MAAC)
  • Fairfield swept visiting Siena and Marist over the weekend to improve to 11-0 in the MAAC. In the process, the Stags secured their 29th consecutive season with a winning record in MAAC play as well as their 29th consecutive bid to the MAAC Championship.
  • Fairfield's 18 consecutive wins over MAAC opponents represent the eighth-longest active streak in the nation. Western Kentucky tops that ledger with 92 straight wins over Conference USA foes. Other notables on the list are Southeastern Louisiana – who Fairfield defeated on opening weekend – with 30 straight Southland Conference victories and Yale – who edged the Stags in five sets this September – with 28 consecutive Ivy League wins.
  • The Stags lead the MAAC in kills per set (12.96), assists per set (12.30) and hitting percentage (.236). Defensively, they slot second in digs per set (15.79), third in blocks per set (1.98) and fourth in opponent hitting (.204). No MAAC opponent has hit over .200 against Fairfield in 2024.
  • Individually, the Stags do not place a hitter in the MAAC's top 15 in kills per set. However, Fairfield boasts six qualifying players with over 1.50 kills per frame, led by 2.61 from Mamie Krubally and 2.54 by Allie Elliott.
  • After a 12-block week, Maya Walker has risen to fourth in the MAAC with 83 blocks in 84 sets.

Sacred Heart Pioneers (10-13, 6-5 MAAC)
  • Sacred Heart had a split weekend in its first two true home matches of the fall, taking a 3-1 win from Marist before falling 3-0 to Siena at the renovated Pitt Center.
  • Camryn Luginbuhl leads the Pioneers' attack with a MAAC-best 4.33 kills per set on .186 hitting. Luginbuhl is ranked 12th nationally with a conference-high 969 attempts this season.
  • Gaby Zovko adds a full statline with 8.25 assists, 1.71 kills and 0.46 aces per set.
  • Rookie libero Miliani Villarreal is second in the conference at 4.83 digs per stanza.

All-Time Series
  • Fairfield's 3-0 win on Oct. 2 at Mahoney Arena moved the all-time series to 14-5 in favor of the Stags.
  • The Stags and Pioneers are playing each other multiple times in a season for the first time since the first two meetings in the series in 1989 when the squads met at the University of New Haven on Sept. 23 and three days later at Alumni Hall on Sept. 26 – both wins for Fairfield.

MAAC Standings Update
  • At 11-0 in the MAAC, Fairfield enters the week with a two-match lead over Quinnipiac atop the conference standings. After having swept the Bobcats in early October, the Stags need to win just one set this coming Sunday in Hamden to secure the head-to-head tiebreaker.
  • There is a possibility that the Stags can gain a share of the MAAC regular season title by Sunday. If Fairfield posts a 3-0 week, Quinnipiac loses one of its other two matches (in addition to a Sunday loss to the Stags), and Rider loses once, the Stags would be guaranteed at least a piece of their 23rd regular season crown.
  • Entering this week, Fairfield needs to win five of its final seven matches to assure a top-two seed and a bye to the MAAC Championship Semifinals.

Up Next
  • The Stags make their lone trip outside the Nutmeg State in a span of 36 days when the visit Merrimack on Saturday, Nov. 2.
  • The current road swing wraps up on Sunday, Nov. 3 in Hamden for a return match with the Bobcats.
  • First serve in both outings is set for 1 p.m.
