Sunday Sweep of Marist Boosts Stags to 11-0 in MAAC Action

Haut and Elliott drop 10 kills apiece in 3-0 win over the Red Foxes

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – For the second straight day, Fairfield University Volleyball won a close first set and used that momentum to roll the rest of the way to a 3-0 MAAC victory. On Sunday, the Stags dispatched Marist in straight sets at Leo D. Mahoney Arena behind 10 kills and nine digs apiece for Allie Elliott and Mikayla Haut.

"We made good adjustments today and responded well to Marist's gameplan," said Head Coach Nancy Somera. "In particular, both of our setters ran a great offense. They spread the ball out and all of our hitters were getting quality swings all day."

With the win, Fairfield moves to 11-0 in the MAAC as a part of a 13-10 overall record. Marist fell to 1-20 on the season with a 1-10 conference mark. The contest was decided by set scores of 25-22, 25-13 and 25-19.

The Stags hit .333 for the match, boosted by a .500 hitting percentage in Set 3 to polish off the sweep. Blakely Montgomery and Abby Jandro shared setting duties and finished with 20 and 19 assists, respectively. Kyla Berg also doled out three helpers from the libero spot.

In addition to 10 kills apiece by the outside hitting duo of Elliott and Haut, Svenja Rodenbüsch stepped in on the right side and put down eight kills on .368 hitting. Mamie Krubally added seven kills also working from the right side. In the middle, Maya Walker had six kills and Harlan Wyche tallied five finishers on nine errorless swings.

The Stags also picked up six points from beyond the end line with Jandro accounting for three of Fairfield's half-dozen aces. Haut, Elliott and Berg each chipped in one service ace.

Defensively, Fairfield limited Marist to .150 hitting, fueled by seven blocks and a 46-31 advantage in digs. Berg led all players with 15 from the back row followed by Elliott and Haut's nine each. At the net, Rodenbüsch and Wyche teamed up for four of the Stags' seven rejections and Walker had three, including a solo stuff.

Marist was led by nine kills and seven digs from Sara Dasic. Taylor Miller also finished with nine kills for the Red Foxes.

Fairfield Volleyball has another three-match week on tap, starting with a Wednesday, Oct. 30 trip across town to Sacred Heart. First serve from the Pitt Center is slated for 7 p.m.
