BRONX, N.Y.- Freshman Gabriel Montoya was the first Fairfield men's cross country runner to cross the line at Friday's IC4A/ECAC Championship Meet held in Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, as he cover the 8K course in a time of 26:15.9.
As a team, the Stags finished 18th out of 24 scoring teams on Friday. George Mason won the men's team event that featured a total of 261 finishers with a score of 61 points. Friday's race also featured fellow MAAC schools Siena (8th place), Marist (15th place), Mount St. Mary's (20th place), Quinnipiac (21st place) and St. Peter's (24th place).
Montoya led a group of five runners for the Stags closely bunched within 33 scoring spots each other, as he was followed by Ryan Lindley (26:19.5), George Hohenleitner (26:32.4), Olli Muniz (26:46.7) and Charlie Tessier (27:22.9).
Chase Orciuch, Bryce Robinson and Nevan Kelley completed the Stags' finishers at the IC4A/ECAC Championship Meet.
The Fairfield men's cross country team will return to action next Friday, October 25 at the CCSU Mini Meet which will be held in New Britain's Stanley Quarter Park, as squad continues to prepare for the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship Meet on November 2.
