EDISON, N.J. – Fairfield University Women's Basketball freshman Road Runner
Meghan Andersen tied the program's single-season record as she was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Rookie of the Week for the sixth time this year. Andersen is coming off another double-digit scoring performance as she led the team with 17 points in the win at Stonehill.
"Meg is consistently proving herself as not only one of the best freshmen in this league but in the country," Head Coach
Carly Thibault-DuDonis said. "She is a huge key in our success, but what makes Meg special is her drive to keep improving and her love for her teammates!"
Andersen tallied her ninth double-digit scoring contest of the season as she shot 6-for-10 from the field and drilled in two 3-pointers to account for her team-high 17 points. She also led the Stags with five rebounds, in helping the squad to their eighth-straight victory. The eight-game winning streak is tied for the 15th longest in the nation.
Entering the bulk of the conference season, Andersen leads the MAAC in scoring at 16.9 points per game, a number that stands seventh in the nation among freshmen. Her .556 field goal percentage is the third-highest in the country among rookies.
Andersen becomes the fourth Stag in program history to win six MAAC Rookie of the Week awards, last done by Casey Smith during the 2014-15 campaign.
Andersen and the Stags will next take the court in Western New York when they take on Niagara on Thursday morning at 11am.
