FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University men's soccer team will travel to Colgate University for a Saturday afternoon match which will finish up its first road trip of the season. The team enjoyed its best offensive effort since the 2005 season with its 6-0 win over Brown University in Providence last Monday.
About The Series
- The Stags will meet up with the Raiders for the third time in school history with Colgate holding a 2-0 edge in the series. After Colgate collected a 2-0 win in the 1995 season, the series went into a hiatus that lasted 27 years before the teams caught up with one another at Lessing Field in 2022. Once again, Colgate posted 2-0 win by scoring a goal in each half. Fairfield goalkeeper James Anderson made a pair of saves in the contest while Colgate goalkeeper Oliver Townend secured four stops to earn the shutout.
About Fairfield
- Head Coach Carl Rees witnessed his team post six goals in a shutout win against Brown, the fifth time in school history that the Stags won by that score. The last of those four shutouts came in the 2005 campaign when Fairfield defeated Canisius at home behind two goals from Billy Androutsos and three assists from Mike Lentine. Goalkeeper Andrew Frankel earned the shutout for the Stags. Fairfield also defeated Seton Hall (1980) and Niagara (1990) at home and beat Canisius on the road by that score.
- Five different Fairfield student-athletes scored in the Brown game, paced by William Pierce's first two goals of his collegiate career. The newcomer posted the team's first two to put the Stags in position to win the game. The effort was the first two-goal effort by a Stag since Raz Amir tallied a pair of first-half goals in a 2-1 win at Bryant in 2022. In addition to Pierce, Kaea Rangihaeata, Asher Rosen, and Sam Danner also tallied their first collegiate goal in the victory.
- Goalkeeper James Anderson earned the shutout with 90 minutes of solid play in the Fairfield net, making five saves with four coming in the second half. The senior posted six shutouts last season now has nine career shutouts after the Brown match. Anderson currently ranks fifth in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference with his .791 save percentage as well as with his five saves per match.
About Colgate
- The Raiders will play their fifth match of the season, checking into the match with a 2-2 mark. This match will be the third against a MAAC team having already defeated Siena (2-0) and falling at Marist (3-1). Colgate also split its other two non-conference match, edging Binghampton (2-1) and coming up short at #22 Vermont (2-0). The program opens Patriot League play on Saturday, September 16 when it travels to Lafayette College.
- Aidan Davock, who paced the Colgate offense with five goals and two assists for 12 points a year ago, currently represents the team's top scorer in 2023. The senior has a pair of goals to his credit, . Alejandro Coury and Mason Pahlue are responsible for the team's other two goals, each scoring in the first game of 2023.
- Andrew Cooke has played every minute in the Colgate goal this season, sporting a 1.50 goals against average with a .667 save percentage. The goalkeeper has 12 saves to his credit including a season-best seven stops in the loss to Vermont. He posted three saves to earn the shutout in the season opener against Siena.
