BRONX, N.Y. – Dana Nadda netted her first career collegiate goal while
Maddy Theriault and
Alex Darcy added scores in the second half as the Fairfield University Women's Soccer team took down the Fordham Rams 3-1 on Sunday afternoon on MSG Network. The victory brings the Stags record to 2-2-1 before the team returns home for another home stand starting on Thursday night.
"It was a good road win," Head Coach
David Barrett said. "Obviously the red card changed the dynamic of the game but it was a good bounce back after a disappointing result on Thursday. Any win on the road is a good win. We still have things that we have to tidy up but finding a good result on the road against a decent opponent is always a good thing."
The Stags first goal was set up by a nice run by
Angela Filosa who got by her defender and also made a move past the Fordham goalkeeper into the box. With her feet outside the penalty area, the Rams' netminder reached back and grabbed the ball to take away Filosa's scoring chance and was called for a foul and a red card in taking away the scoring chance.
Nadda presided over the free kick right on top of the penalty area and unleashed an absolute rocket into the top right corner of the net for her first collegiate score in the 32nd minute.
The Rams would play with 10 players for the rest of the contest, and the Stags took advantage. Just six minutes into the second half, Theriault would steal the ball from the goalkeeper and pushed it into the back of the net for her second goal of the season.
Fairfield would complete their scoring output in the 76th minute when
Reagan Klarmann lobbed a pass over the head of the defender and Darcy was able to chase down the through ball and hit it past the keeper for her first score of the year.
Katie Wright kept the Rams off the scoreboard until the 84th minute until a long strike from the Rams into the top corner put the score at 3-1. In total, Wright made three saves in the victory.
The Stags out-shot Fordham 16-7 with an 8-4 edge on shots on goal. The Stags are back in action on Thursday night when they host Central Connecticut State on Lessing Field at 6pm.
