Men's Soccer Starts Road Swing At Brown Monday Night

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The Fairfield University men's soccer team will begin a two-game road trip on Monday night with a trip to Brown University. The match is slated for a 7 pm start. The Stags come off a pair of home games to start the season, falling to FDU and Bryant at Lessing Field. The Bears opened their 2023 campaign on Friday night against UMass at home.

About The Series
  • The two programs will meet for the fourth time since the 2011 season which saw Fairfield and Brown get together for the first time in an NCAA Tournament match. The Stags scored the first two goals of the game before Brown rallied in the second half to win the postseason game in Providence. The two teams continued the series with a pair of games in 2012 and 2014, both which ended in a scoreless draw. In 2012, Fairfield goalkeeper Michael O'Keeffe made eight saves to preserve the shutout on the Stags' side. The 2014 meeting also resulted in no scoring with Matt Turner registering three saves on the nine shots he faced that night.

About Fairfield
  • The Stags are looking to get out to another good start on the road this year, hoping to replicate last year's success that saw the team win two of its first three road games. Under Head Coach Carl Rees, Fairfield owns a .540 winning percentage on the road, a mark which covers 245 matches over his 27 years at the helm.
  • Goalkeeper James Anderson put together another impressive performance in the Fairfield goal, making seven saves against the 13 shots taken by Bryant (eight on goal). Anderson has posted 10 saves through his first two matches, giving him five saves per game. He is one of five MAAC goalkeepers to average five or more saves per game among teams that have played more than one game. He has also registered a .714 save percentage to date.
  • Joseph Stocchetti remains on top of the Fairfield scoring leader board with his one goal and two points. Fairfield has created its share of chances with 12 shots in its two matches with six different Stags attempting at least one shot so far. Sam Danner has been first up in both of the team's contests this year, taking the team's first two shots against FDU and the first shot against Bryant. The midfielder leads the team with four shots taken.
  • Fairfield will play the first of its two matches against Ivy League opponents on Monday night when its heads to Brown. The Stags will host Harvard University on September 19 to close out the run against the Ancient Eight. Since 2012, Fairfield owns a 5-4-2 record against the Ivy League which includes last year's split, defeating Princeton before falling at Harvard.

About Brown
  • The Bears opened up their 2023 campaign with a 3-1 win against UMass on Friday night at home, beginning a run of six home games through its first seven dates. Brown will travel to Central Florida for that one road contest, one of just seven away dates this season. The program posted a 6-2-1 record at home last season with the two setbacks coming against Ivy League foes (Cornell and Yale).
  • Brown has a good portion of its scoring from 2022 back for the upcoming campaign, led by sophomore Jamin GoGo Peters who tallied seven goals and one assist for 15 points. Kojo Dadzie, who scored twice in the season opener, also performed admirably with his five goals and four assists for 14 points in 2022. The duo are one-fourth of the eight returning student-athletes who tallied at least one goal a year ago.
  • Goalkeeper Henrik Weiper returns for another shift in the Brown goal after posting an Ivy League best seven shutouts in his inaugural season. He also ranked third in the Ivy League with his 1.067 goals against average as well as with his .768 save percentage.
Next Up
  • Fairfield will remain on the road for its next match, traveling to upstate New York for a contest with Colgate University on Saturday, September 9. The Stags' next home game stands on Wednesday, September 13 against LIU. Game time is 7 pm at Lessing Field.
