Former AD Gene Doris Inducted as a Basketball Old Timer of America

Brooklyn, NY- Former Fairfield Director of Athletics Gene Doris will be inducted as a Basketball Old Timer of America on May 5 at Sirico's in Brooklyn, New York. Doris is a part of a highly decorated class that includes Jay Wright, Irma Garcia, Barry Rohrssen and Jeff Ruland. The event is celebrating 64 years of recognizing icons in the sport of basketball.

In 23 years serving the Fairfield University community as the Director of Athletics, Gene Doris led the Stags to 45 conference championships, 58 regular season championships and 35 trips to the NCAA postseason. Fairfield won the overall Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Commissioner's Cup four times during his stay. On the women's side, Fairfield won the MAAC Commissioner's Cup for Women's Athletics seven times while the men took home the award three times. Doris was presented with the Distinguished Faculty/Administrator Award from Fairfield University in 2013.

Doris also had the goal of bringing national headlines to the area by securing hosting rights to multiple NCAA Championship events. Fairfield University hosted NCAA Women's Basketball Championship events on seven occasions in addition to four NCAA Men's Ice Hockey Championship regionals during his tenure. That tradition has continued since his retirement, with Fairfield hosting the NCAA Women's Basketball Bridgeport Regional in 2022 as well as the NCAA Men's Lacrosse Championships at Pratt & Whitney Stadium in East Hartford in 2021 and 2022.

Tickets for the event purchased before April 15 are $160 per person. After April 15, tickets are $175 per person. The event will begin with cocktails at 6:00pm followed by dinner at 7:00pm.
