LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. – A back-and-forth Sunday afternoon in South Jersey went the way of the home side as Fairfield University men's tennis fell to Rider 4-3.
"A very disappointing loss today. Injuries aside, Rider came out and played with more energy," said Head Coach Jeff Bricker. "We need to re-group and get some rest and prepare for the upcoming weekend."
Despite the loss, Tolunay Sumer and Jonathan Olive-Blanco teamed up to nab a doubles victory for their side, with a 6-3 win in the topflight, but Rider would take the doubles point. In singles Olive-Blanco completed a sweep of the day with a thrilling performance in the topflight as he dropped just two games en route to a 6-1, 6-1 win. Elsewhere in the round Kostas Kollias took an opening set tiebreak 10-4 before shutting out his opponent in the second frame to sweep the No. 5 duel in straight sets, and Griffin Schlesinger rounded out the day with a 6-3, 6-2 victory at No. 6 singles.
Fairfield men's tennis is back in action for a pair of matches Apr. 1-2 when they return home for senior day weekend at the WAC Tennis Courts.
