FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The Fairfield Invitational completed the first day of competition this evening with the diving competition as five teams competed in the 1 and 3 meter events. The Fairfield University women's diving team placed five student-athletes in both the 1 and 3 meter events while the men's diving team included four student-athletes in the two events.
In the women's 1 meter,
Alexis Gaulin was the Stags' top finisher by earning second place based on her 219.55 points through six dives. Lillian Tonole secured fourth place with 195.30 points while
Lia Oppenheim took seventh place based on her 190.70 points.Â
Elizabeth Beaulieu (174.80 points) and
Kate Wittenauer (156.50 points) rounded out the Fairfield participants.
Tonole followed up with a second-place effort in the 3 meter dive, collecting 204.50 points just ahead of Gaulin who secured third place with 203.75 points. Oppenheim was next in line for Fairfield with 187.25 points. Beaulieu (160.55 points) and Wittenauer (130.0 points) finished up for the Stags.
The Stags swept the top four spots in the men's 1 meter, beginning with the first-place performance from
Andrew Cataldo (220.45 points).
Cameron Pope (197.15 points),
Noah Duncan (174.60 points) and
Tyler Robie (154.95 points) completed the sweep.
The foursome finished in the same order during the 3 meter dive with Cataldo claiming the top spot based on his 214.20 points. Pope (211.50 points), Duncan (193.25 points), and Robie (175.00 points) completed the top four positions in the event.
The Fairfield Invitational continues on Saturday morning with the swimming events. The first event is scheduled for an 11:30 am start.
