Men's Soccer Heads To Canisius For Saturday Matinee

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University men's soccer team will continue Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play with a road trip to Buffalo, taking on Canisius University on Saturday. Game time is set for 1 pm.

About Fairfield
  • The Stags will look for their third road win of the season when they travel to upstate New York this weekend. Fairfield is one of five MAAC teams to record multiple road victories this season, checking into Saturday's match with a 2-2 mark. The team has tallied eight goals away from campus, averaging 2.0 goals per game.
  • Kris Naicker made his Fairfield debut in the match against Canisius while Malachy McGovern appeared in his second straight match after entering his first match of the season against Rider.
  • William Pierce remains the team's top scorer with four goals in his nine appearances, joining Kaea Rangihaeata and Tyler Reavis as the team's multi-goal scorers. Rangihaeata and Reavis are tied for second on the team in goal scorer with two each with Rangihaeata also adding an assist to his point total this season. Goalkeeper Victor Nikolov has been the team's starter for the last five matches, averaging 2.6 stops per contest.
About Canisius
  • Canisius enters this weekend's action with a 1-7-3 overall record and a 0-2-1 mark in MAAC play. The Golden Griffs are coming off a 4-0 setback to Iona College on October 1. Canisius picked up a point in the conference standings with a 3-3 draw against Quinnipiac in late September.
  •  Saturday's contest with mark Canisius' third against a Connecticut-based school, having defeated Central Connecticut on the road before the Quinnipiac draw at home. Seven of the team's 18 goals scored this season have come against Nutmeg State programs with Michael Switala and Brage Aasen pacing the offense with two goals each in those matches.
  • Switala and Daniel Longo represent the team's top two goal scorers this season with Switala posting four goals to date which his one more than Longo's total. Ely Sidibe serves as the team's top play maker, registering a team-best three assists to go along with his two goals (seven points). Jack Petrie has seen a majority of minutes in the Canisius goal with 630 logged so far. He has 44 saves in seven matches for a .657 save percentage. Spencer Catalano has posted 360 minutes and has accumulated 17 saves for a .630 save percentage.

  • Fairfield returns to its home pitch for a pair of games next week, its first back-to-back dates at Lessing Field since the first two matches of the season. The Stags will host Manhattan College on Wednesday, October 11 before welcoming Marist College on Saturday, October 14. Both matches are scheduled for 7 pm.
