Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Stags Fall in Battle at Quinnipiac

HAMDEN, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Soccer team surrendered two second half goals as they fell in a battle between two first place teams by a 3-1 score against the Quinnipiac Bobcats. The Stags would find the equalizer on an Allie Kirby goal to open the second half but the reigning MAAC Champions scored two goals in a two-minute span to take the decision. The loss is Fairfield's first MAAC setback of the season and snaps their nine-match regular season winning streak in the conference.

Fairfield fell behind quickly in the eighth minute as the Bobcats' leading scorer Courtney Chochol converted a 2-v-1 opportunity for the first goal of the game.

The Stags had the chance in the first 45 minutes to find their first goal, out-shooting the Bobcats 9-1 in the first half including the first four shots of the game.

Fairfield had two of those attempts on target as Elle Scott broke away from the defense with a point-blank opportunity and Dana Nadda's header was tipped over the net by the Quinnipiac goalkeeper Sofia Lospinoso.

Fairfield would finally crack through in the scoring column when Reagan Klarmann played a ball towards Kirby who was able to find the angle and beat Lospinoso for her second goal of the season.

The game stayed tied for just 11 minutes until Chochol and Markela Bejleri combined for back-to-back goals in the span of two-minutes for the 3-1 advantage.

The Stags would have just one more shot on goal when Scott found the ball in the middle of the penalty area but her shot was also saved.

Fairfield out-shot the Bobcats 15-8, the 14th time in their last 15 conference matches they have out-shot their opponent.

The Fairfield goal was the first tally the Bobcats have allowed this year. The Stags also had four shots on goal, doubling the amount that Quinnipiac had allowed in their first three conference matches.

The Stags will look to get back to their winning ways when they challenge Canisius on Lessing Field on Saturday at noon.
