Scott’s Hat Trick Leads Stags Over Iona

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – Elle Scott recorded her first collegiate hat trick and the Fairfield University Women's Soccer team totaled six goals in a 6-1 victory over Iona on Saturday afternoon. Along with Scott's three scores, Reagan Klarmann, Sydney Corbett, and Maddy Theriault all touched net or the Stags in their best offensive performance of the season.

"I was very pleased at our efficiency in front of goal," Head Coach David Barrett said. "We showed great composure and calmness, which led to excellent technical execution."

Scott began her career day by tallying both scores in the first half. She would receive a perfect pass from Theriault and beat her defender in the 17th minute and then collected her own rebound for the finish in the 23rd.

The offensive success was just getting started for the Stags as they tallied four goals in the second stanza. Corbett had a hand in the first two by netting her first goal of the season, and of her career, in the 53rd minute and then picking up the assist on Theriault's goal in the 62nd.

Fairfield would continue their scoring with Klarmann's fourth goal of the year in the 66th minute as she set a new career-high.

The Stags completed their offensive barrage with Scott finishing her hat trick in the 69th minute.

Scott's three goals puts her season total to six, placing second on the team. She also scored her 20th career goal and increased her career output to 54 points.

Theriault's score in the second half put her into a tie with Quinnipiac's Courtney Chochol for the conference lead with seven.

The victory keeps the Stags in second place in the league's standings with 19 points. They are two points ahead of third place Canisius with one match remaining as they fight or a first round bye and a home match in the MAAC Semifinals.

Fairfield will close out the regular season with a home match against Saint Peter's on Wednesday night at 7pm.
