Men's Soccer Takes To The Road For Wednesday Match With Siena

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The Fairfield University men's soccer team will travel to the Capital District for a Wednesday afternoon game with Siena College. The Stags and the Saints are scheduled for a 3 pm start on the Siena campus.

About Fairfield
  • The Stags are coming off a 3-2 setback against Marist College at home, the fourth multi-goal effort by the team in 2023. With last Saturday's tally, the Stags have 18 goals on the season, averaging 1.5 goals per game which is tied for second with a 1.50 mark. The team's 18 goals is also the second highest total overall in the MAAC, just behind Iona's and Canisius' 21 total goals. The Stags are also among the league leaders with their 51 corner kicks (4.3 per game) and 153 shots (12.8 per game).
  • The emergence of Thomas Drillien over the last few games has certainly helped the Stags hit those offensive marks. The senior posted a goal in both games last week, tying the game against Manhattan and giving Fairfield an early lead in the Marist game. The forward continues to climb in the program's various top-20 scoring lists, checking into this week with 14 goals and six assists for 34 points. This year, Drillien places second among his teammates with three goals and one assist for seven assists, trailing only newcomer William Pierce. The sophomore leads the team with five goals and 10 points with his most recent goal coming in the 1-1 draw with Canisius.
  • James Anderson made six saves in the Marist match, the most since he posted seven stops against Bryant back in August. The senior has 27 saves in his seven appearances this year, registering five or more in three different contests. For the season, Anderson owns a 1.43 goals against average with a .730 save percentage.

About Siena
  • Siena has enjoyed a great deal of success in conference play, ranking among the MAAC leaders with a 4-1-0 record in league play. The Saints have won three straight matches including victories over Niagara University (1-0), Canisius University (3-1), and Quinnipiac University (1-0). In non-conference play, Siena played a challenging slate that included a match against nationally-ranked teams, namely #7 Syracuse University and #17 University of Vermont.
  • Offensively, Ben Biton ranks as the team's top scorer with two goals and two assists for six points with one of those goals representing the game winner. The freshman tallied the deciding goal against Canisius last week, a goal which helped Biton capture the MAAC Rookie of the Week honor. Zach Gardner also has a game-winning goal this season and places second among his teammates with two goals and one assist for five points.
  • The Siena back line has been quite effective over the last three games, allowing just one goal in those 270 minutes. Bennet Glinder has been in the Saints goal for each of those three wins, bringing his goals against average down to 1.10 and improved his save percentage .744 with 32 saves in his 10 appearances.

Up Next
  • Fairfield returns to Lessing Field for a Saturday night match up with Iona University which begins at 7 pm. The Stags will celebrate Senior Night prior to the match with the Gaels.
