PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- The Fairfield University men's rowing team opened its 2023 Fall season with a good showing at the Navy Day Regatta on the Schuylkill River. The Stags sent entries for the varsity 8, second varsity 8, and the novice 8.
The novice 8 posted the best finish among the Stags entries, posting the fourth-best time among the nine entries. Fairfield finished the distance with a time of 14:09.58 after Navy registered the top time of 13:14.57. The Stags' entry included
James Casper, James Penzack,
Eamon Tonna,
Luca Tarricone, Will Kent, Paris Fotiadis,
Brian Peknick, Sam Elliot, and coxswain Maddy Gross.
The junior varsity eight collected the 10th best time in its event as
George Voegele,
Mike McCarthy, Tommy McCarthy,
Patrick Arsenault,
Frank DiNatale, Nick Tapinis,
Alex Hemmat,
Jack Cartnick, and coxswain Tom Flynn combined for a time of 14:12.27. Temple University secured the best time in the event, crossing the line in 13:07.08.
The varsity 8, behind the efforts of

Brady Stergion,
Zalan Kovacs,
Spencer Chidley,
Michael Hamilton,
Ryan Wrynn,
Jerry Malloy,
Connor Carroll, and coxswain Matt Tarabocchia, rowed the distance in 13:07.08 which placed 20th in the 30 crew field. Penn A won the event by recording a time of 12:00.48, seven seconds faster than runner up Navy.
The Stags will now prepare for the Head of the Charles which takes place next weekend in Boston.
