QUEENS, N.Y. – In a match that didn't get underway until after 7:00 p.m. against St. John's for Fairfield University women's tennis, the host Red Storm would use their early season experience to take a 4-0 decision over the Stags Saturday night.
Despite Fairfield playing its first contest of the 2023 campaign, St. John's entered the weekend with four matches already under their belt, improving to 2-3 after Saturday's duel, which was played indoors on the campus of Queens College.
The Red Storm would capture wins in the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles contests to secure the point on the front end of the night and followed that with a trio of wins in singles action. Due to the late start, the final three duels would be left unfinished, highlighted by Paulina Bakaite who led 3-2 in set two following an opening-round defeat in the No. 2 flight.
Fairfield women's tennis returns to action this Wednesday, taking on their second consecutive BIG EAST foe with a trip to Storrs, Conn. to take on UConn. First serve between the Stags and the Huskies is slated for 3:00 p.m.
