BETHLEHEM, PA. – After having last week off from competition, Fairfield University men's and women's cross country will return to action this Friday, Sept. 30 as both squad's head to the Quaker State for the 48th annual Paul Short Run, presented by ASICS and hosted by Lehigh University.
Hosted by the Eagles on campus at the Goodman Campus Cross Country Course, the day will begin with the men's open 8k at 9:30 am, followed by the women's open 6k at 10:15. The team contests will see the men's squad competing in the College Brown 8K Race at 12:15 pm, followed by the Women's College Brown 6k which is slated for 1:00 pm.
For the Fairfield men's squad, senior captain Robert Dillon has led the team through each of the first two meets this season, placing as the top Stag in the opener at Siena, before crossing the line 29th out of 68 runners at the John "Paddy" Doyle Meet of Champions last time out. Jacob Bornstein finished second in each of those meets with an 89th finish out of 191 runners to open the year before placing 35th at the Iona Invitational, while as a team, the Stags placed seventh out of eight and 11th out of 14 in their first two competitions.
One the women's side, sophomore Courtney Kitchen has paced the Stags with a pair of finishes amongst the first 15 to cross the line, including her first top-10 last week. Kitchen opened the 2022 campaign with a 14th place finish at the Siena Invitational where she not only set the fastest time of her collegiate career and placed her as a Top-25 All-Time Performer at The Crossings of Colonie, also the site of the 2022 MAAC Championships. She followed that up with a sixth-place finish at the Iona Invitational the following week, helping the Stags place seventh out of 13 schools and seventh of nine schools during the first two competitions, with senior captain Danielle Grosso crossing the line second for the squad in each of those meets.
